How Your Custom Board Is Made

Every Timber & Tokens board is created through a careful, hands-on process designed to honor both the wood and the moment it represents.

1. Choose Your Wood

We start with premium hardwoods selected for beauty, durability, and character. Each wood species has its own grain pattern and tone, giving your board a natural look that can’t be replicated.

Because we work with real wood, no two boards are ever exactly the same — and that’s exactly the point.

2. Select the Shape & Size

Next, you choose the board shape and size that fits your purpose — whether it’s for entertaining, gifting, or display.

Each design follows a proven template refined for balance, comfort, and everyday use, ensuring your board looks great and feels right in hand.

3. Cut & Shape the Wood

Once selected, the wood is cut to size and shaped using precision tools to maintain clean edges and smooth contours. This step brings the board to life, transforming raw lumber into a functional piece with intention behind every line.

4. Sanded by Hand

Every board is sanded through multiple stages to achieve a smooth, food-safe surface. We take our time here — smoothing edges, rounding corners, and preparing the wood to receive engraving and finish.

This step is where the board truly begins to feel finished.

5. Laser Engraved with Care

Your custom design is then laser engraved using a precise, non-contact process. The engraving permanently marks the surface of the wood, creating crisp detail while preserving the board’s strength and integrity.

Natural variations in grain mean every engraving has its own character.

6. Finished & Sealed

After engraving, each board is finished with a food-safe oil or wax to enhance the grain, protect the wood, and bring out its natural warmth.

This final finish deepens contrast and ensures your board is ready for everyday use.

7. Inspected, Packaged & Shipped

Before shipping, every board is inspected by hand. Once approved, it’s carefully packaged to protect it during transit and sent on its way to you.

Most custom orders ship within 3–5 business days.
