How Custom Engraving Works

     How Laser Engraving Works

·       Laser engraving is a precise, non-contact process that permanently marks the surface of the wood without inks, chemicals, or fillers.

·       Using focused light, the laser gently removes the top layer of the wood to create a clean, detailed engraving that follows the natural grain. Because no pressure is applied, the integrity of the board remains intact — only the design is revealed.

·       Each board reacts slightly differently based on the wood’s grain and tone, which means no two engravings are ever exactly the same. This natural variation is part of what makes each Timber & Tokens board unique.

·

Why Laser Engraving Is Ideal for Wood

·       Permanent – the design won’t fade, peel, or wash away

·       Precise – fine details, clean edges, and consistent depth

·       Food-safe – no inks or dyes used

·       Durable – designed to last through years of use

·

What to Expect with Your Engraving

·       Your engraving will appear slightly darker than the surrounding wood, with natural variation in tone depending on the grain. This is normal and expected with real hardwood and contributes to the handcrafted look.

·       Before engraving, we review each design to ensure it’s properly sized and positioned for the best balance and readability.

·

·       Hand-Finished After Engraving

After engraving, each board is lightly finished and inspected by hand. This step smooths the surface, enhances contrast, and ensures the board is ready for everyday use or gifting
